A Long Overdue Documentary about Dieter Rams

A Long Overdue Documentary about Dieter Rams

When you think of iconic, game-changing designers of the last century, Dieter Rams is bound to be in the top 10. His influence on the design world continues to reign and will for generations to come. Now, after over 50 years in the business, the legendary Rams will have a feature documentary made about him by Gary Hustwit.

Dieter-Rams-Documentary-2

Hustwit seems to be the perfect choice to launch this project, with his previous documentaries being Helvetica, Objectified, and Urbanized, as he was able to interview the designer for the latter documentary. Despite Rams’ private nature, he’s granting Hustwit access to learn about his life and work.

Dieter-Rams-Documentary-3

Filming has already begun at Rams’ home and studio outside of Frankfurt but there’s more filming to be done, so they’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign to complete the film.

Along with raising funds for the documentary, they also want to help preserve Rams’ design archive.

Why Have Housing Prices Increased so Much?

In the last five years, housing prices have more than doubled in Colorado. In Greeley Colorado the median price has increased from $120,000 to over $260,000. Colorado has lead the nation in house appreciation, but many other parts of the country have also seen huge price gains as well. The average house price has increased about 25 percent in the last four years in the United States as a whole. There is a large increase in home prices, but housing prices in the US are still not as high as they were in 2008. The average price in the US

Geometric Acoustic Wall Panels by Arper

Geometric Acoustic Wall Panels by Arper

Launched in 2015 by Arper, Parentesit is a collection of modular wall panels, designed by Lievore Altherr Molina, that not only aid in reducing sound, they add a geometric, decorative element to your space. The components come in three graphic shapes, a circle, square, and an oval, which can be customized to now include a speaker or ambient light.

On top of adding a bold visual element to any wall, the panels bring additional function with their latest iteration of light and sound. They’re controlled via a smartphone app that lets you sync music or take calls and adjust the LED light levels to create the perfect ambience.

From Arper CEO Claudio Feltrin:

Parentesit is an innovative combination of functional and expressive features: it’s one product that responds effectively to diverse needs, especially in reference to work environments: it creates private spaces, moderates noise levels, it interacts with the environment in which it is inserted via interactive technology and graphic customizable shapes; Parentesit Wall Panels are a practical and elegant lighting support, speaker and sound diffusion.

Olafur Eliasson Installs Massive, Man-Made Waterfall at Versailles

Olafur Eliasson Installs Massive, Man-Made Waterfall at Versailles

Part of artist Olafur Eliasson’s latest exhibition, Waterfall is a massive, life-size replica of an actual waterfall that almost doesn’t seem real. The plumes of water appear from mid-air before pouring down into the Grand Canal at the Palace of Versailles. From the front, it looks as if the water arises from nowhere and it’s not until you move around to the side that you see the metal structure erected to pump the water up to the top.

Waterfall-Olafur-Eliasson-1a

From Eliasson:

The Versailles that I have been dreaming up is a place that empowers everyone. It invites visitors to take control of the authorship of their experience instead of simply consuming and being dazzled by the grandeur. It asks them to exercise their senses, to embrace the unexpected, to drift through the gardens, and to feel the landscape take shape through their movement.

Waterfall-Olafur-Eliasson-2

The entire exhibition is on display until October 30th, 2016, in Versailles, France.
