Rock, Paper, Scissors is not just any art exhibition. Rather, it’s a journey that explores the evolution of one artist’s work from 2014. Michael Hambouz’s study in color, form, and process began in 2014, and slowly morphed throughout the years as his unexpected passion for paper began.

After the death of a parent, Michael turned to his art to cope, as well as reconnect with his hometown, where it all began. He began by carefully examining the production process at French Paper Company, one of the few independently-owned paper mills in America that happens to be close to his home. Through cut paper, he explored new artistic freedom and abstraction, by layering different shapes and lines to create nine final pieces. Then, he created 3D lenticular paintings that were inspired by the hidden information within shelves of record collections. Much like the cut paper, lines are shifted together and fractured to move with the gaze of the viewer.

Lastly, he aimed to hold the energy of 3D work, but in a flat canvas. Michael created three, almost identical 2D works using cut paper, paint, and screen printing that are then displayed together with the 3D painting.
